Seedling Orders

The District offers tree seedlings and shrubs each year to the public.  If you are a landowner/homeowner that is interested in purchasing the seedlings, contact us.  Order forms are available from now until mid March with an order delivery of mid April.                                                      2012 Order Form                   Description of Species

  Earth Resources Information Network (ERIN)

ERIN is an evolving network of tools that facilitate inclusion of Ohio's soil, water and natural resource data into private and public land use decisions.

ERIN provides the data in a single location, with a simple format and in conjunction with powerful analysis tools. Analysis tools include measure, selection, and terrain analysis tools. Maps can be customized with text, images and shapes. Work created while using the ERIN GIS can be saved or shared with others.

The "dig" and "survey" reports can provide soils, floodplain, DRASTIC, census and much more information. Simply visit OhioERIN.com and click on the "dig and survey reports". The "before you start" video will provide a 3 minute tutorial on creating these reports.

ERIN is brought to you by the Van Wert Soil & Water Conservation District and the Ohio Division of Soil and Water Resources.

 Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP)

Area farmers and landowners are encouraged to take a new look at the Lake Erie Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program.  CREP provides assistance and payments to farmers who protect their land by establishing grass buffer strips, planting trees, and creating wetlands along the lake's tributary streams.

The upgraded CREP project adds several new conservation practice options, such as:

bullet

introduced and native grasses/legumes in filter, recharge and
other areas

bullet

restoring wetlands in non-floodplain areas

bullet

planting rare and declining habitat covers

bullet

establishing conservation buffers on marginal pastureland.

The program will run on a continuous basis, meaning eligible land must be enrolled at any time until 67,000 acres have been enrolled, or December 31, 2007, whichever comes first.  Enrolled land remains under a CREP contract for 14 to 15 years.

Long Term Water Quality Study

Since 1989 water samples have been collected from Town Creek, area municipalities, and rural wells on a regular basis.  They are tested for nitrates, phosphates, and pesticides.  The results show that Van Wert County is fortunate to have quality water available.  Funding for this project is from the Van Wert County Foundation and will ensure continued monitoring and protection of our water in the future.
